    This was my childhood! They were one of the bands that defined the early and mid 80's! They were part of the New Wave era. Along with Culture Club, Wham, Kajagoogoo, Thompson Twin, Berlin, and Depeche Mode. The music were so fun and danceable back then. Duran Duran's music wasn't about politic and violence. It was just pure fun! I also love their hairstyles and clothes! Brought back a lot of good fun memories!

    I had exactly the SAME view, vantage point and crowd experience in Toronto. They used footage from the Toronto show for "The Reflex" video... amazing year for music and Duran in particular ! Thanks for posting this, great memories!

    I can’t believe I just found this, I was a little kid at this concert all alone. I lied to my Mom and said I was meeting my friend and her Mom there and had my Mom drop me off there. I ended up front row and pinned against the stage. I was eventually pulled out by security onto the stage before it ended and was walked out through a stairwell and the whole band came walking on it and all said hello to me. It was a dream come true.

    WOW! I use to live in Santa Monica over 20 years ago. I now live on Miami Beach, FL. I do visit LA, but I've not been back since then, so I was shocked to see this video of how it looks like today. The Sand & Surf use to be the Mann Criterion 6 movie theatre. I'm shocked that so many stores and restaurants are closed. The Third Street Promenade is so empty! Sunday use to be sooooo packed on the weekends. That huge empty 1940's storefront at Santa Monica and Wilshire use to be a GAP store. That giant orange bldg by the alleyway use to be a Hooters 20 years ago. WOW! That REI store closed down? Damn, Urban Outfitters is still around for 20 years? The AMC Broadway Theatre was originally owned by Cineplex Odeon. I love that store. WOW! Oh yeah, I was there that afternoon when that car plowed down the Farmer's Market and killed 10 people and like 70 people got injured. It was so busy that day, and I had just left the area and was walking home. Horrific scene. After that, Santa Monica PD put patrol cars at both ends of the Farmer's Market to stop anyone from driving down the street. Thanks for the video!!!

      Thanks, for the comment, John (Jhon?). That whole place was the center of my universe for probably 10-15 years, so to see it now the way it is, like you express, is heartbreaking. I went over to Main Street which was fine. Lots of stores, lots of people. I went over to Westwood to take it look, and it was fine. I may go to other locations as well, but for some reason 3rd Street Promenade seems to be taking the brunt of all of the Santa Monica areas. Not sure why that is, but it's a mess as you can see.

      @@jhoncornejo9358 - Now that you bring it up, I should probably head over to the Santa Monica Pier (and that whole Big Dean's/Hot Dog On A Stick areas), and see what's happening there. I know Venice is a mess, even more so than it usually is which I also intend to check out, but this is not the same Santa Monica you remember in general. Much different vibe, and definitely no fun any longer.

And she bought my trip for 3 hundred bucks😮 And took her fiancé to Cabo.Hotel Sol Mar. My video tape disintegrated before I could get it over to a hard copy My fifteen minutes of fame She picked me because I told her. I would spend my whole check on the date. Then she screamed at me when I told her. I would sell my trip for $500😂😅

    So the term "cow tipping" hadnt been invented yet? The guy explaining it like no ones ever heard it before. Time is crazy

    • @ScottBentona
      @ScottBentona 8 місяців тому

      There are really two things to consider: cow tipping indeed was just a few years old by then, but mostly, at that point in time when this TV episode was shot, there was no internet, or email, or even America Online yet, so not all information was centralized or accessible like it largely is now. There were 1200 baud modems you could use your landline to call in on and post messages to message boards, but only the techies had the interest and equipment to do that. Cow tipping is also pretty much a myth and doesn’t work as described. However, cow PAINTING was somewhat of a thing, but I have a feeling even that activity was probably urban legend. The world without the internet was a much different world, and arguably a better one.

      I honestly don't know. Probably not. Even my uncle (Marty) never saw it. It sat in a box in my closet with all the other films I made at that time for 30 years before I got it transferred from Super-8 to a digital format I could post. It doesn't look like it has a lot of hits for the most part even though I've posted it on social media from time-to-time, so I'm doubtful this has really been discovered or much less appreciated.

    A few years ago I managed to talk to Kathy (who is the person who runs the official website of the band) I asked her about how it was possible that perhaps the best tour in the history of the band has so little video material, She told me He said that in those years it was very expensive to make videos and that he would have to be thankful that the documentary Sing blue silver and the show As the light go down existed. But she didn't fully answer my question since to make a documentary or a show absolutely everything is filmed and then edited. I believe that the band has in its archive everything that was left out of the final edition of that tour as well as images of several other shows. In 2005 I saw the band live in Madrid and I could see that the show was filmed entirely from 3 cameras and THAT VIDEO IS NOT AVAILABLE the band will have in their archive. I don't understand why Duran Duran isn't slowly releasing their unpublished shows for sale like other bands currently do. a pity.

I think that's a safer order than being disappointment straight away like she clearly was.
